Nutrigenomics is a new
science that looks at the link between food and health based on
our genetic makeup. Also known as nutritional genomics, the field
has developed from having the entire human genome information deciphered.
Classical nutrition looks
at the digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients. These
activities are carried out by enzymes in our body. Enzymes are proteins
and each protein originates from one or several genes. Genomics
tries to unravel when and how these genes are used to make the enzymes
our body requires to adequately process the food we eat.
